Here are a few tips on taking photos of small objects for a website or blog.
Photos 1 and 2 show the setup including the small seamless background used when photographing small objects. Please note the following:
• The object is on a piece of paper that recedes back and curves upward.
• The paper is matte; its color is a neutral mid-tone and neither too dark nor too light.
• The object is near a window.
• The natural light illuminates the object on one side.
• The light is indirect which enhances volume. If the picture is taken under direct sunshine very sharp shadows are created.
• Overcast days are ideal for photographs like this.
• No flash was used.
Picture number 3 shows a close-up shot of the subject. While the object may be seen, the surrounding area has been left out of the photograph without resorting to further digital manipulation of the image.
